This project is part of a ten-gate west-expansion for San Diego Regional Airport Terminal 2. The Smart Curb is an automated departure area, providing a passenger check-in feature before entering the terminal. Departing passengers will be able to obtain boarding passes, check baggage, and receive flight information before going directly to security screening and the departure gate area. The Smart Curb Pavilions are indoor/outdor areas covered by tensile fabric roof. The full expansion project is designed to qualify for LEED Silver Certification. Loisos + Ubbelohde provided extensive daylighting and visual comfort consulting services for the Smart Curb Pavillions, as well as studies of the air movement through the building and site by means of wind tunnel analysis and computational fluid dynamics (cfd). The project is planned for completion in Spring 2013.
